Description
I bought a wine barrel on craigslist and left it in my car overnight. This (dead) spider fell out when I unloaded the barrel. There's a big honkin' eggsac under the barrel, which I haven't touched since.

There is a rookery (shared by great egrets and snowy egrets) alongside the canal on Bay Farm Island.

Description
Strange enough to see quail in this park, but it seems that these are Gambel's Quail, instead of California Quail.
Since neither species migrate, this covey is probably born of birds bought for the hunting or food trade.

Description
Three birds were wading in at the edge of the water during a low tide. Two were interacting, splashing in the water, and preening. Another bird was heard vocalizing near the solitary Rail.

Description
The Wood Duck male is paired with a Mallard female. These two species can and do hybridize, which is not good for Wood Duck populations.
