This pink crab was in a mangrove, next to lots of fiddler crabs. I'm no crab expert but it seemed distinct from the fiddlers.

What

Temminck's Red Colobus Procolobus badius ssp. temminckii

Observer

Date

Description

The Western Red Colobus is endangered throughout its range and the population around southern Senegal is isolated from the rest of the population around Côte d'Ivoire by a gap in Guinea. Apparently there were just a dozen in the Foret where we saw them.

What

African Monarch Danaus chrysippus

Observer

Description

These beautiful African monarch butterflies are everywhere around Tabakouta in Senegal. Unlike most of the pictures I've seen of this widespread butterfly, these had very white hind-wings which is what makes them so striking.
