Description

Commonly associated with redwoods, shade tolerant. One of most important timber species in us. Grows almost as fast as coast redwood but not as long lived. More vulnerable to fungus and wind. Distinctive 3pointed bracts between cone scales

Description

Bizarrre zig zagging grooved textures. Seems eroded down to fiber but I was wondering if anyone knew what processes cause this? Fire damage followed by rain erosion? Continues about 20ft up the tree (also did not realize coast redwoods were tallest trees in world up to 375ft)
