A sassafras is a medium-sized moderately fast growing tree.It has three different leaf shapes: entire, mitten shaped, and three lobed. The oil of the sassafras is used to make perfume.
The tree that I observed was in a dying condition. It was shaded out by the taller trees in its' area. The diameter at breast height of the tree is 60 cm.
