Fran Kitchen released this rehabilitated red-tailed hawk into the Portage Lakes State Park. It had been hit by a car and had a concussion and a damaged eye.
These tough little buggers have survived numerous hard freezes on our milkweed pods. At night they pile on top of each other and burrow into crevices, and when the sun comes out, they climb on top to get warm. There are still all different stages of them.
