Some kind of toad! This guy just came out of nowhere one night, and he was about the size of my fist.
I saw this tiny purple crab near Henties Bay. Not sure what family or anything else.
Most Namibians shit their pants when they see one of these because there is an old myth here that they can witch you and their bite is deadly poisonous.
I don't know what type of ants these are, but they emit a foul, urine-like odor when provoked. I also have a picture of what I believe are the larvae.
Any help identifying this would be great. Very large with a loud, low buzz.
I only saw this guy because he kept jumping around, but he looks exactly like the rocks. He had beautiful pink wings but I couldn't get a shot of them! Possibly a Sphingonotus sp.?
There was a swarm of these one morning at my school, covering the entire village.
I was having a braai with some buddies and this guy hopped down on my shirt.
These ants are all over Okahandja, and all over Namibia in general. They have a weird habit of sticking their abdomens high up in the air.
Another pair of milkweed locusts I saw at a later date. Are they mating? Does anyone know?
This is one of the first insects I saw upon arriving in Namibia. Beautiful milkweed locust!
Caught this one outside my house one night. If someone knows what those weird white things coming out of its abdomen and hind legs are in the last photo, please tell me!
I believe this is some type of longhorn beetle, but I have no idea what genus. This one was pretty large and woke me up in the middle of the night by gnawing on my neck.
These ladies crawl around my house all the time. I have been researching them and I think it may belong to the genus Dasylabris but I'm not sure of the species. I'm not sure if the last photo is a different species also because it has slightly different markings on the abdomen.
