American pika. Saw and photographed to individuals, and heard others give warning calls, at a meadow-talus interface on below the west wall of Matthes Crest (near a creek that appears to flow downhill to Echo Lake). After I watched for a few minutes, one relaxed enough to collect grasses.
We had heard many calls, but this was the only picture I could get on our way back from Mt. Roosevelt at about 8pm. Temperature was in the mid 70sF.
An unusual place to find pika in Idaho. Heard one call as I hiked by and then found them in a boulder pile at the edge of the cedar grove in East Moose Creek.
