Description

Granite Ghost (Bradinopyga geminata)

A dragonfly which is very friendly to artificial human environment unlike other dragonflies.

The species is so well suited to concrete jungles not
only because of its extreme agility and keen hunting senses, but because of its remarkable ability to
remain unseen (as the name says Ghost ).

Its thorax and abdomen are alternatively colored with white and brown-black, which resembles granite and so its name 'Granite' Ghost. The wings are transparent, head is brown and legs are black from the front and white from the back.

This species is usually seen perched on compound stone walls, boulders etc. It easily merges with such perching sites because of its colouration. The species is commonly found near rock pools and other similar small water collections. It is common in the urban landscapes and breeds in overhead tanks and garden ponds. In aquaria larvae tend to destroy fish hatchlings.
