Western Honey Bee (Apis mellifera)Observer
ranaeserDescription
This Bee was sitting on a rock right above the stream in the Berkeley Fire trails. It didn't move much even when I got close to it to take the photo.
What
Snake Millipedes (Order Julida)Observer
ranaeserDescription
I saw this millipede after lifting up a rock by the creek running through the Berkeley Fire trail. It was slightly damp under the rock and the millipede crawled around for a little before crawling under a leaf still stuck on the rocks bottom.

What
American Pokeweed (Phytolacca americana)Observer
ranaeserDescription
I spotted this plant when I was walking along the firetrail. It was growing next to a chain-link fence and had smooth, red-green branches intertwining with the fence, and tall bundles of bright pink flowers. Some of the bundles had flowers near the top, but on the bottom they were squishy balls when broken open contained a clear gel and a couple black seeds encapsulated in the gel.
