Description

Growing in a mat completely covering a sizable nurse log. A single plant grows long with wispy arms, they are covered in papery textured leaves that are light green and light brown at the base with a red stem at the center that shows through the leaves. Growing along side Douglas neckera, sections of fan moss, and some Oregon beaked moss.

Description

Very large tree, with bark that is dark red-brown and peels in strips. The trunk of the tree was covered in patches of moss and lichen, including a section of branches in the canopy that were entirely covered in cat-tail moss. I found a very small sapling of the ceder growing out of a nurse log near the adult trees base.

Found growing in clusters, many grouped together at the base of several large conifers. It was growing close to the ground, and each leaf is once pinnate. They were shiny due to fresh rain.

Description

Young Madrone growing horizontally and close to the ground. Leaves are large, waxy, and light green. Meristem is pinkish along the edges of the axillary bud. Small red bumpy textured berries grow hanging in clusters together. Bark is light orangish brown and is very smooth with thin layers peeling off.

Small with light green and brown coloration. Once pinnate with evenly spaced branches and strong midrib. Grows a lightly shaded area in a mat covering the ground, and on the base of surrounding trees. Soil is very damp and rocky.
