Discovered basking next to old adobe house. Very hard to see. This is the southernmost C. atrox that I've observed. C. scutulatus was also in the area.

There were dozens of this lizard basking on agave plants along a cornfield just off the highway. Elevation -- probably over 2000 meters

There's a healthy population of this species living in the Rio Galindo canyon, NW of San Juan del Rio, Queretaro. The stream is mostly spring fed and the habitat is in relatively good condition, comprised of mixed riparian (Taxodium sp.) and thornscrub.
Specimen observed sunning itself amongst boulders in mixed conifer forest, at approx. 2,800 meters elevation. Temperature was in the 60 F degree range. Specimen was extremely difficult to see. Location is approximate. This was the earliest that a large C. molussus was observed at such a high elevation in Central mexico

Basking on a log in the Sierra Madre Occidental, North of Durango, Mexico. This specimen was a juvenile approximately 30 cms long. In the same area, a Blacktail rattlesnake was observed.
