Description

A pair of Tufted Titmouse are moving into one of my nest boxes. This has happened every other year for the past six years. Unfortunately they have a very low success rate since once they get established, the Tree Swallows and House Wrens come back and try to evict them. The one time they were successful it was because they killed one of the House Wrens trying to take over their box.

Description

Nesting in this piece of electrical utility equipment called a "service entrance cap." I've seen both House Sparrows and European Starlings compete for these nesting sites, but I have never seen any other species try to use them. It just doesn't seem right to me that this widespread standard piece of equipment is giving safe homes to invasive species. I might start cataloging every instance of this that I come across.
