Growing at the beach beneath Lands End.
This is hard to see, but it's a bare stick with short branches coming off at 45 degree angles.
It's hard to see, but the focus of this photo is supposed to be on the bare stick with short branches coming off the stem at 45 degree angles. I believe it's a leafless poison oak branch.
I found this flower in a cave near the beach. It reminded me of paper bag flowers that I've seen in the desert before.
Black-yellow-black caterpillar. The summer camper's at Crissy Field Center are finding these things left and right. They seem to be thriving on our recently planted arroyo willow fence. The Chrysalis is so well camouflaged it was really hard to find again after I went inside to get my camera.
I'm trying to identify this backyard weed. It's leaves grow alternate off the stem, and the flowers are at the base of were the leaves shoot off of the stem. I think it's a pretty common garden weed.
There is a tiny spot of purple on some of the tiny flowers. The stem feels rigid, almost hexagonal.
Can anyone help me ID this? I've been wondering what it is for a long time.
First I saw a bright orange mushroom that I thought looked like a Morrell. I went to go check it out more closely, and I noticed it was rotting and sort of slimy. There were flies on it. It stank pretty bad, kind of like feces. Next to it I found what I then thought to be 4 puffball mushrooms. I was excited because I had heard puffball mushrooms are usually edible. I brought them home to identify, cut them open and found that they were slimy like Jello on the inside. After doing some book/internet research I discovered for myself that both mushrooms were the same, a species of stinkhorn. I put the four "eggs" in my backyard, I'm excited to see if they "hatch" into a stinky mess.
