I think this is a young Tasmanian Pademelon.

Mother and young at heel. There were lots and lots of these out in the evening and dark.

My photo was only a dark blur, but I did get a great look at it as it stood right in the middle of the spotlight in the road in front of the bus. The only one we saw.
