Balfour's Reed Frog (Hyperolius balfouri)Observer
sekisambuDescription
Brown male reed frog (amphibian) with orange digits perhaps Hyperolius balfouri. The call is one sharp click. It has a yellowish vocal sac and light green spots on the back. Specimen also resembles Hyperolius castaneus but that would be far out of range as the species has never been recorded in Kampala or around lake Victoria. The site is a degraded wetland usually water logged in a builtup slum area. There is a spring well nearby and a storm water drainage channel pouring into Lubigi channel. This gives a glimpse into the diversity of amphibians, reptiles, fish and birds in the unsampled Lubigi wetland -one of the remaining wetlands in Kampala but rapidly being degraded.
