Place

Darfield (Google, OSM)

Description

The site we visited was too compacted with woody plants, hardwood trees and plants with sharp points. It was not easy to walk around, but at least we managed to complete some observations. No bird was seen at this site, but we manage only to hear the sound of the birds, at least 1 or 2 taken as a maximum estimate of them present.

Description

20 minutes Butterfly survey at the Lincoln University Residential halls,The Cresents. There's not too many of other species of butterflies seen at this place, but the majority of them were Yellow Admirals (Vanessa itea). The insects, were observed to be visiting the flowers of the plant (Common Privet, Ligustrum vulgare), probably pollinating the flowers. Most notably their yellow rather than red patches and are slightly smaller with a 45-55mm wingspan. Prefer to live in open areas.
