What
Spectacular Corolla (Corolla spectabilis)Observer
shelbycDescription
1/2 in - 2 in.
Hundreds scattered along beach at low tide. They are clear and jelly like, but with a snail shell like shape. They are covered with small equally spaced bulges as seen in photo.
What
Isopods (Order Isopoda)Observer
shelbycDescription
Grayish brownish exoskeleton. Not a rolly polly as the other pillbugs. Kind of looks like a mollusk due to its flatness.
I didn't have a camera on me.
What
Domestic Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos var. domesticus)Observer
shelbycDescription
I've used this photo before to id the mallard in the background, but I'd like to make sure the ducks in the foreground are also mallards.
The tawny one with the white breast in the foreground kept her bill underwater for a long time, so I didn't see it before I got distracted by a bufflehead landing at another spot on the water.
I didn't see the speculum through my field glasses, so I can't say what color it was.
I assume the duck to her left is a male mallard because of the green head, so maybe that's the only way to tell?
It also might be a juvenile mallard.

What
Red-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta canadensis)Observer
shelbycDescription
Two nuthatches calling at each other, flying towards each other in bursts. At one point they flew towards each other and banged into each other, flapping their wings hard while in the air. And then they fell to the ground in a puddle. Immediately they flew up while still kind of entwined.
This happened too fast to snap a photo.
But their call was lots of sharp loud tweet - tweet - tweet!
What
Garlic Snail (Oxychilus alliarius)Observer
shelbycDescription
AKA Garlic glass snail.
I didn't pick it up and smell it, though now I think I should have. Garlic snails smell of garlic.
It was on the underside of a piece of wood. Very small, maybe a quarter of an inch or smaller in diameter.
I didn't see the actual creature, so I can't say for sure if it is a garlic snail, because garlic snails are black.

Cypress Family (Family Cupressaceae)Observer
shelbycDescription
The leaves don't have sharp tips like the giant sequoia, so I don't think my ID is right.
