Young alligator lizard in my backyard. I try to make areas of spent bark for a safe area from the neighborhood cats. I was weeding when I spotted this one.
Two garden snails coupling on the trail.... were there for at least an hour and half..... there and back!
Spring brings up so many interesting plants along the San Mateo coast!
I've always referred to these as indian paint brush.... but, that was from a children's story I read my daughters. See them lots of places along the San Mateo coast.
I believe this was a Great Blue Heron enjoying the small lake's finest tasty treats. Right after the photo the bird successfully struck food..... couldn't see what though.
Surprised to see this high up on an eastern facing hill, so I climbed to take a peek.
I know I've read about these fern like plants, but I can not recall the name. Lovely leaves with a small white flower which is hard not to over expose in the lighting...
These cover areas of the forest floor at this time of year... I see them everywhere!
Saw these stalks coming up in an oak/bay area of La Honda. Interesting flowers and no evidence of any leaves that I could see.
These three shoots were coming up. I'll definitely watch how they develop. This winter/spring rainy season has given us wonderful coastal trail walks this year. Each year is a delight, but this year has been particularly bountiful.
Pacific pond turtle found in backyard, released into local pond.
Lichen growing on the trunk of a Bay tree. Interesting texture of this leafy black lichen and red growth Wolf's Milk (Lycogala epidendrum.)
