Surprised to see this Checkerspot flying in the native garden of the SFBG as they have only been seen here/photographed a few times and do not have existing colony here.

Fist eggs I’ve seen at the SFBG this year. This bed opened up a year ago to a massive light gap when a tree fell. The increased sun exposure resulted in more eggs laid in this section.

Observed flying in the west garden of CAS. Appeared to be looking for host plants to oviposit due to the frequency of contacting foliage.

We’ve noticed a few males and females this fall in the garden and found some recruitment during garden maintenance. Late in the season but not entirely unusual given the mild weather, and favorable new growth on the vines. Eggs through 4th instar observed.
