Male flying around the summit.

Second one I’ve seen in the garden this month! Clearly a male and patrolling a stand of Phacelia californica near Bed 40B

Surprised to see this Checkerspot flying in the native garden of the SFBG as they have only been seen here/photographed a few times and do not have existing colony here.

Very early sighting for the year. Cold weather but the freshly eclosed male seemed unphased!

Oviposition observed near the ground.

Several of them observed in the SFBG courting and chasing in the meadow and near the reservoir.

Female observed basking.

Fist eggs I’ve seen at the SFBG this year. This bed opened up a year ago to a massive light gap when a tree fell. The increased sun exposure resulted in more eggs laid in this section.

Observed flying in the west garden of CAS. Appeared to be looking for host plants to oviposit due to the frequency of contacting foliage.

Late season female observed nectaring on manzanita

Walked the perimeter of the grounds and found a decent amount of growth south of the fence line.

Late season male missing one hind wing. Observed another male and a female. A small clutch of eggs was also found on new growth.
