The caterpillar my camper found in this observation (http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/809991).
I took it home and it pupated. Emerged today. Definitely looks like a Smerinthus, probably S. cerisyi. What do you think?
Will get some better pics of its spread wings once it rests more.
Taken by one of my campers.
This photo is by one of my campers. My macro was not effective here.
They make it look so easy.
American White Pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos). Point Reyes National Seashore, California.
Two adults and one young one were cavorting in an otterish way.
The photo is by one of my campers, who also found them across the way on another ridge. Awesome!
Found by the big firepit and bleachers at Live Oak Campground. We nudged it out of the camping area and it coiled up nicely under an oak.
Didn't think they'd be out this early in the year. I was wrong.
