Painted Leaf (Euphorbia cyathophora)Observer
vandarysDescription
I was thinking maybe an awkward poinsettia? my family says that’s where they used to dump out old dead potted plants but it’s been several years since they’ve had a poinsettia and this is the first time this has shown up.

Smells like a cucumber tastes like a cucumber has seeds like a cucumber. Only thing is that they’re the size of a small grape. Growing wild on the side of my mom’s house. She thought the vine was a wild morning glory until the little yellow flowers showed up.

What
Angle-winged Katydids (Genus Microcentrum)Observer
vandarysDescription
I’m not sure what this guy is but judging by his legs and his face he belongs in this group. He’s about 2inches long and his leaf shaped wings hides a second set of butter yellow ones I saw when he flew. The black spot along his left side looks to be a wound not a marking as the other side doesn’t have it and is torn. Probably one of my cats thought he looked fun.
What
Rose Glorybower (Clerodendrum bungei)Observer
vandarysDescription
About 3 feet tall single stem culminating in a large cluster of flowers approximately the size of a dinner plate. Plant is in my mother’s flower bed but it grew there wild.

What
Splitgill Mushroom (Schizophyllum commune)Observer
vandarysDescription
Gilled mushroom fan shaped, fuzzy top, white with grey scalloped edges and grey gills. Area gets adequate ambient light from the bus windows but no direct sunlight at any time of day. Went to clean out my school bus for the end of the year after it’s been closed and empty for 2.5 months due to covid-19 closures and found it growing up from under some metal flooring edges. The area collects dust and also moisture when mopped or if the bus leaks during heavy rain. There’s a crack in the wooden underflooring where the pieces were joined before the vinyl/linoleum top floor was put down. there’s also a join in the linoleum under the metal strip. My guess is the mushroom’s mycelium is growing in the wooden underflooring and the fruiting bodies are squishing themselves up through those cracks to the air to spore. Without completely tearing up the floor of my new bus I’ll have no way of knowing for sure.
