What

Southern California Walnut (Juglans californica)

Observer

Description

On a class trip we came across a few of these trees. I assume it a California Walnut based on google search but feel free to correct me. It could possibly be a shrub because it had many branches and was more spread out than tall. The height of the tree was about 2 yards and the total wide was about 3 yards. This should be a native tree.

Its a fern that grows many tentacle like stems from the center. This one was around one and a half feet wide all together and each stem was about one foot long. A few of the stems were already dry but there were ones that were still bright green. Each tentacle like stem was covered by tiny thin hard stick like leave giving the whole plant a dense feel.
