My first Green Heron of the year. This was the only one in the park this day.
I'm sure these are just hybrid mallard ducks but it was odd that they were both so obviously brown colored. These were the only two ducks like this in the entire park. I'm guessing they were just captive bred and left here.
Had a nest of babies but the nest was too obscured by foliage to photograph. What was interesting was that it was on this little island that you can walk onto in the middle of this pond which is heavily visited by people. The bird was very un-afraid of people and allowed me to get very close to get a photo.
Not sure of the exact species. Was in this city pond though with many others.
Me and my son were looking for snakes and found this one under a rock. I was almost certain it was a Water Snake being that I see nothing but those in this area, not to mention I had just caught a couple here a week ago. I saw this snake's bright red tail before it disappeared and it struck me as odd. Then looking at the photo when I got home I realized what it was. Awesome find for me being my first Milk Snake!
Found dead along the road with this rodent which I'm still trying to identify. ... After searching I did identify this rodent as a "Woodland Jumping Mouse". It was so big I thought it was a rat!
A rodent that me and my son found along the road dead next to an also dead black rat snake. Its body (not including tail) was about 4.5 inches long.
Thanks Loarie for the link to the snakes to help me ID this. I looked up so many and for some dumb reason I forgot to look at Queen Snakes. Even after other photographers told me they have gotten shots of them in this area. Just slipped my mind! But now after seeing the images this was most definitely a Queen Snake without a doubt. So sad I had to find it in a fatally wounded condition though :(
Got some shots of one of these here yesterday but I wanted it to be known there were two here today. And I was able to get a little bit better of a photo. Thought this was a Hooded Merganser turns out its a Red-breasted Merganser.
I so wanted this to be a Fowler's Toad but I just can't put convince myself that it is. Perhaps a young Fowler's Toad or just an odd colored American Toad.
Lots of Garter Snakes and Water Snakes in this area. Mostly Water Snakes.
I have been looking to get a photo of a fox in this area for 2 years and today I finally got what I wanted. I saw this fox walking along the road while I drove through the park so I parked up ahead and got up on a trail where I could see the fox coming up the stream. My intuition paid off and I was able to get a great view of the fox with a young groundhog in its mouth walking along the creek. It crossed and came up to the trail I was on where I followed it for a bit until I lost it in the woods.
There was at least one chick in this nest that I was able to see earlier on. They have buoys keeping boaters and kayaks at a distance which is nice.
