immature Red-shouldered Hawk
Beavers chewing and later swimming (and a Great Horned Owl in the background).
ID'd first by sight.
recorded from Mt Vernon Trail
This is for my records only.
Heard 2:30am. Located by triangulating (driving around the neighborhood).
No recording. Decided to start marking the places I hear (and/or record). Thinking it might tell me soomething (like perhaps a range for calling, etc.)
At picnic area of Big Meadow Lodge (near camping area & amphitheater).
also Red Milkweed Bug larvae which I will crop and post alone
on trail just before the summit of Stony Man Trail, a wasp (unsure which but possibly a bald faced hornet?) was taking the wings off one by one, and then flew away with the body!
let me know if you know the wasp, as I noted I thought it might be a bald faced hornet.
not the best pic so can only get to the genus
a little bit beat up
female. Possibly Rose Hip Fly (Rhagoletis basiola)
100+ over the course of 4 hours (conservative estimate)
