Description

Saw one adult Pacific Treefrog 100 yards downstream in the dry section of Parson's Creek. Up stream several joined pools had tadpoles in the shallows and Steelhead Fry in a deeper pool, the tadpoles were not mixing with the young Steelhead. Two stages of tadpoles, young black and second stage green with black spots of the Pacific Treefrogs were present.

Description

Found in Oak/Madrone leaf litter in a cool shaded area along road margin. Five broad leaves suspended 4 inches above ground with one lavender starflower in peak bloom. You need to zoom in to capture the lavender color that confirms this as a Pacific Star flower

Description

Found three feet off road in mixed Oak/Madrone leaf litter in filtered sunlight. Saw my first Variable Checkerspot nearby. Stickey Monkeyflower is the alternate name as listed in the checklist for the Hopland Field Station.

Description

Multiple sitings of this Checkerspot butterfly after we spotted some Monkeyflowers nearby, which is a known host plant for this species. Around a bend in the road, several dozen were feeding on the flowers of a Yerba Santa (Eridictyon californicum) shrub.
