Black Parrot - seen with local rangers in Perinet (Mantadia). This bird is similar to the Greater Vasa Parrot of the eastern side of Madagascar. We had been working with the Seychelles population of black parrots - at that time a sub-species barklyi - so this was a significant observation, connecting with a species in the wild across different islands.

Found in the leaf axils of a Pandanus during the day, normally it is P. tuberifera here but the dorsal pattern on this one is not so usual and it was smaller than normal (could be a juvenile though).
