Red-bellied Black Snake (Pseudechis porphyriacus) near Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. Photographed on 27 February 2010.
I was having a barbeque with some city friends when this fellow came from behind the Barbeque and slithered along the side of the house. It was around 57 cm (Just under 2 foot) in length.
Although quite venemous - it is not as dangerous as most of the other members of the Pseudechis genus.

Eastern Brown Snake (Pseudomaja textilis) near Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. Photographed on 8 April 2009.
I don't like finding these fellows right at my back door - this was photographed not two meters from my back door. I get lots of frogs on my windows at night, and they attracts these guys and the red-bellied black - both very dangerous snakes - indeed, this species is regarded as the second most venomous snake species in the world (Wikipedia). I guess I will be watching where I put my feet for the next few days until the cooler weather sends them underground.
