At the time I thought this was a moth.
Having a hilariously tough time ferrying a dead cockroach. The sand afforded little purchase, so there was lots of flailing, and it was beset by smaller ants. This is the only time I've seen a bull ant that didn't see me first, and the only time I could get close enough for good photos without having open-jawed lunging directed at me.
I'm not sure if these are galls, or domatia, or just a weird thorny plant.
