These are remarkable plants, they are growing in quite a harsh alpine area. It is endemic to Tasmania.

Currawong were to be a companion for the next six days.
Got some very good advice, keep food secure, deep in the main compartment of pack. These are quite clever birds, and have been known to open zippers on a pack.

The D. peltatas I saw were mostly just the basal rosettes, but a few were tall like the ones in this photo.

My photo was only a dark blur, but I did get a great look at it as it stood right in the middle of the spotlight in the road in front of the bus. The only one we saw.
There were so many wombats, both adults and juveniles. Spotlighting from bus.
