Description
Even though its an introduced frog to New Zealand these are quite common around suburban gardens on the South Island. Its a brown to grey frog with orange thighs, a distinct eardrum and a chirping cricket like call - it seems to enjoy cold and wet evenings in the winter.

The brown back part appeared to be some sort of constructed shell it was dragging around with it. Not a cocoon though, as it was crawling head-first like this along a phone pole.
