Black-bellied Slender Salamander, Botrachoseps nigriventris, observed at 7:18 am, after early morning rain, on asphalt road.
This is the third time a Slender Salamander was observed after a rain on this road, over the last 6 six years.
Observed several groups of Giant Kelp washed up on shore, and many more groups about in the water in large clusters. Some groups appeared to be attached to floor, while others looked like they were afloat.

Just North of the Terranea Resort on the trail that leads away from Nelson's Restaurant at 2:30 PM, a pair of California Gnatcatchers, Polioptila sp., were observed*. One was perched on top of a bush and making calls and the other came out and chased the calling bird and they disappeared into the bushes together.
* Observed by Jeff Manker and Deanna Harwood and reported to me.
