Sun bathing at Albalone Cove. Me and two others were surprised when we saw this seal. It was laying on the rocks, and didn't seem to bothered by us or other people. It would raise its head and its tail at times, almost as if it was doing it to prevent itself from getting wet from the waves.

We saw several hermit crabs of different sizes throughout Abalone Cove. I saw two that appeared to be eating a sea anemone, which surprised me since anemones can be poisonous. Perhaps they do not affect hermit crabs.

This crab had a great hiding spot, under some rocks in Abalone Cove. At first I thought it was a hermit crab, but then realized it wasn't in a shell. Then I noticed its green coloration, and recognized it as a striped shore crab.

Dark salamander found on S side of building under 4x4 inch paver between volunteer parsley plants a few feet from water spigot and from potted plants that are watered only a couple of times a month. For reference, a 3x5 index card, lines are 1/4 inch. Salamander is about 1/8 inch wide maybe. This may be one seen last year, but no photo taken there- or offspring? The color looks uniform, no definite red area on the back like one of the 2 seen about 30 ft north and 15 ft or so West of this location.

I opened the lid and he hopped onto the box and flew a few feet away onto the patio, then he moved to a shady corner with tomato plant overhanging. Later he was hopping around the planters scratching for food.

3 Juvies seen today. Adult seen on previous observations, was not seen today.
One watched intently as children threw bread to the ducks/geese/turtles. This one picked up a stick, dropped it in the water, picked it up again, dropped it. I have heard of green herons using tools to fish, maybe that is what he was doing. He is standing on a 'bridge' made of a log, with just a little water flowing over it into a lower section of the 'creek'.
