Encountered during mid- to late afternoon in boulders along dry rocky arroyo.
One individual seen on a large boulder stained with slurry/fire retardant dumped during a recent (2013?) wildfire.
Viewed several Whitebark Pines along the Pacific Crest Trail in the San Bernardino National Forest, California.
This adult sugar pine had been cut down. I photographed the rings so I could count them, but I've not done it yet. There's a few hundred of them.
Is this Leptotes marina? The end of the wing with the spots is missing on this butterfly.
A heavy crop of the best photo I got of the swallows swirling about above the trees.
It looks like bits of scarab beetle in the poo. Racoon, maybe?
