First sighting of two on rocks on the Bird Island Trail at Point Lobos. A pair usually nests on the same rocks in past years. No sign of nesting materials however at this time,may be too early.
This deer mouse was at the edge of the road near Whalers Cabin in Point Lobos. Since they are mostly nocturnal, I was surprised to see it. Perhaps it was sleepy or sick because it was a challenge to convince the mouse to move off the road.

Once again near midday I saw a monarch flitting near the Echium in our yard. It seemed to be foraging in the neighborhood plants more than flying any particular direction.
I saw a monarch fly over our home mid-morning. I haven't seen one at the monarch sanctuary since the last recorded sighting there and thought that they might have been blown out of town by strong breezes (Beaufort 6) on Sunday and Monday last week (6-7 days ago). Having seen this one, I'll keep a sharp eye out when observing at the sanctuary.

I have observed this turkey tail growing on a fallen tree for several months. The color has faded somewhat and appears more greenish now. The second photo is the underside of a small piece of the turkey tail. The pores appear white.
