This Blue-eyed Darner was resting on a branch near the fremont Peak Campground, far from any open water.
Several covies of California Quail were seen (and heard) around the Fremont Peak campgrounds.
There was a very loud and active colony of Acorn Woodpeckers around the Fremont Peak campgrounds.
Pacific Madrones were the second most common tree around the Fremont Peak Campgrounds, just behind Valley Oaks (Quercus lobata)
Valley Oaks were the most common trees around the campgrounds at Fremont Peak, followed by Madrones (Arbutus menziesii). In Central California Valley oaks can be identified by their stately shape, bark structure, and deeply lobed leaves.
There were several flocks of Wild Turkeys in San Juan Canyon and on top of Fremont Peak this morning, All of which included displaying males like this one.
