Over 40 individuals seen on a boat tour up Elkhorn Slough
Fall migrant Elegant Terns are arriving at Moss Landing by the hundreds, possibly thousands. They are enjoying a bounty of small fish just of shore that has also attracted whales.
A raft of male otters were observed resting and cleaning at the mouth of the slew, in the marina...individuals were observed swimming and feeding further up the slough. A few were observed resting among the harbor seals and one was even hauled out on a dock. Apparently it was believed otters never haul out, but these guys do it frequently, according to the kayak guide. If you want to see otters, this is the place.
We saw this near the bridge on the South Marsh trail.
We observed the pickleweed at Elkhorn Slough NERR
