Four dead American Woodcock I saw at least four more alongside or in the road that I didn't photograph including one on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel leaving the eastern shore and beside the road at the toll booths on the eastern shore.
We had a wet snow followed by a week of below freezing temperatures. I knew from last year that weather of this sort was likely to drive them out of the brush where I could see them.
I had not previously seen them and had no idea what kind of shape they would be in or that I would see any dead ones.
