Serpentine grassland, often by rocks. Plants at rosette stage, no flowers. Tip of leave lobes have tiny bright orange dots - supposedly to fool butterflies into thinking the leaves already have eggs so they don't stop and lay more on the leaves.
Pair in amplexus
These small fish hang out in pools in small groups. They are about 6-7 centimeters long. Some are longer.
The first image is of a living specimen curled under a rotting oak branch lying on the ground. The second is of a dead millipede exoskeleton in Baldy Ryan Creek.
This beetle is small. From memory I think it was about 5mm long. It resembles Erotylidae.
Recently killed. Trod on by a marathon runner, or hiker.
