newly shed carapace
Flower diameter about 3/4 " in diameter. Leaves were grass-like rounded blades.
Very sought-after county bird for most of us. It has been wintering here with a flock of Eurasian Collared Doves, but is very difficult to find.
Sitting on eggs. Although you cannot separate this bird from a female Rufous by looking at it, this is the only Selasphorus that nests in the county.
Pup in reasonable good condition, drying/warming its armpit. If you're feeling too happy, take a look at the second photo of a much-less healthy pup (yes, the lighthouse docents called the Marine Mammal Center).
Bad hair day. Additional photos with very large fish, looking better, etc.
First photo courtesy dpom; second photo (AKA bad photo) is all me. :-)
Three separate groups.
