Feeding on Pacific Hound's Tongue.
Purple, on the side of a fallen oak log in shade. Looks like some of the sponges we see at low tide!
About 1/3" high, on the underside of a damp oak log. Lacy, spongelike structures.
Largest was about 1/3" across. Underside of a damp oak log.
Two patches (one golden yellow, one browner) on the underside of the same oak log. Released cloud of spores when poked.
Under redwoods on damp moss-covered cliff. About 2" high.
On the underside of an oak log.
On fallen oak. Largest about 1" across.
Large, the biggest were about 12" across. One photo shows the tip of my shoe for scale. In a meadow in the shade of a large oak log. Other smaller/younger ones are more the classic mushroom shape.
