Golden Aster Heterotheca sessilflora ssp echioides. Open grasslands. Only know stand on the Preserve
Sunflower family? Looking for detail, genus, species
Mauve and white, on Ulva.
Adult coloration - larger and browner than yesterday's juveniles.
Shell only, about 1 1/2". Hoping to lure the butterfly folks in with this photo. :-)
Juvenile, about 1/2", alive.
About 1/2", common on sea lettuce.
Attached to ulva; note "children" near its base. Small, about 1/2". Not sure of this ID because of stalk/tentacle color and location.
If you blow this up to original, you can see the green stalks with orange stripes in the middle of this photo (yes I made them pull in their tentacles). The second photo shows their normal posture.
Yellow branching/spreading sponge at waterline on dock.
Red bushy clustering hydroid, colony about 5" across. Small reddish polyps visible on many branches.
This is the 'tail' end, so LeslieH can see I've been learning from her comments! Thank you! First time I've seen an epitoke pre-detatchment. Word of the day!
Found two of them, each about 1/2", slightly different coloring. Off a dock, living in filamentous green seaweed. Very shrimplike tails, but can't rule out some form of isopod either. One of these photos shows them with a Syllidae in my photo box; the clung to it and rode it around but didn't try to eat it.
About 1.5". Found on dock.
