Many of them in a Japanese Maple tree. They were hovering briefly to get at the seeds.

Did not see any live ones at this location. This shell (about 1/3" long) was floating on the surface.
I do not usually see egrets on the wires, so I was not sure if it was really and egret.

Note: lizard was somewhat slow and easy for me to catch for observation. Weather was hot.
There was a green curly plant growing on the Manzanita branches. A moss?

About 3 mm long, near mouth of harvester ant nest (Vermessor, formerly Messor).
Probably M. oregonensis based mostly on location, but maybe M. manni or something similar.
Barely active in the cool afternoon.
