Parking in a No Parking Zone at the 7-11
I have discovered the secret to seeing the animals I love the most: leave my camera at home! As with last month's Mountain Lion, I finally saw a Mourning Cloak in the county, while leading the SAS Volunteer Appreciation Hike. It moved very quickly; I'm not sure I would have had time to photograph it even if I'd had the camera. Looking forward to adding a Mourning Cloak with a photo at a later time.

Very exciting sighting! On a trip to survey the park for the San Mateo County Birding Guide.
Really, I was just fooling around with my iPhone camera to see if I could get a picture of the moth pressed against our sliding door, attracted to the lights inside the house. But then I got a useable photo from the bunch, and the moth was cooperative, such that I could measure it - 2 centimeters with its wings spread.
