One Humpback Whale off Half Moon Bay today, beyond the pod of Bottlenose Dolphins. The second photo shows a dolphin in the foreground for size reference. The whale was pretty far out and I was not able to get any decent photos of it.
8-10 small fish under the dock. Fish were about 5-6" long with white-spotted backs and yellow tails. They fit the description of Yellowtail Rockfish, but I don't know enough to make the id.
One of the biggest ones I've ever seen came up with the rope I was pulling on.
Just a few small patches of these.
Huge base, about 4 inches across. It was the only Plumose Anemone I saw here.
Octocoral id per Lamb, pg 90. It's as close as I could find. This was a very dense patch growing on the shady side of a dock. It was the only patch I could find. Total length of each polyp was about an inch.
