Was definitely surprised to find this in SF. There were also Tylobolus millipedes around, that I failed to photograph.

Yay! This was basically my target species for the day, and Jon found the first. All the ones we found were under logs under cypress.

One of many old shells of this kind founder under the tarps. Umbilicus didn't look open enough for Haplotrema, and Neil thought there were too many worls, as well.

Nice big living adult, maybe 10 mm in diameter. I though I detected a vague garlic scent, but Neil didn't, and he said it should be quite strong for it to be O. alliarius. We were taking off so I didn't take a full series of pics.

There are two individuals depicted here (one was lively, the other retracted), but they were the same species, the same size, and under the same log.

At first I thought this was a silphid, but looking at pics the jaws and antennae looked wrong. Then I looked up Scaphinotus larvae (it's eating a slug, after all), and that looks much better: http://bugguide.net/node/view/740920

Between 2-3 cm long, found under a log (I think). I'm inclined toward Arion intermedius, but could it be an unmottled Limax flavus?

This ones tougher. The sculpture is closer to nickliniana, but the umbilicus looks pretty open. That said, the aperture looks brokne, and it's filled with dirt.

I have to admit I don't feel great about this one, since it's so small and the sculpture isn't quite malleate, but it doesn't quite have the oblique bumps and closed umbilicus of nickliniana either. Found under a rock at the base of a pine near the parking lot.
