Likely male, was quite small. Outside of my place on the power line over the intersection.
Feeding along the shore. Yesterday they had some white egret camp followers working the inner shore, but tide was out further.
Small. Less than a foot across. Saw it while it was getting out of the way of some white pelicans.
A very snipe-ish bird exploded from some brush as I passed it and flew away quickly. No time for picture, alas, but it looked and sounded just like a snipe. Very cool!
All day there has been a great horned owl in the oak tree in my backyard. A group of crows and a single sharp-shinned hawk have surrounded it and been screeching at it non-stop. The owl is still there after five hours. The number of crows has increased.
On perimeter of a lawn that just went in this past year. No real rain yet this year so maybe triggering primarily due to temperatures dropping
Students found this orange and black insect in our school garden at 12:30 in the afternoon. We haven't been able to determine its species, and we're hoping to get more information.
I think it's eating a bay pipefish.
The bokeh on this lens is awesome. I need to figure out the sharpness, though.
