Camouflage with sand
The Presidio Trust forester sent this picture to me. He said that Pinaster was planted in the Presidio and in Golden Gate Park . While it is highly invasive in other Mediterranean areas it has not been observed to spread in SF.
Well established from plantings over 15 years ago, reintroduced from rhizomes gathered at Pacifica and Half Moon Bay.
Well camouflaged on beach sands within the foredune habitat at Crissy Field.
All alone in a sea of coyote brush.
Under coast live oak and bay laurel.
With reddish-orange tinge to flowers; looks like a cultivar.
This is a very worn specimen so I am not entirely sure on the ID
