Warm weather, little cloud coverage
This bird was feeding at dusk, diving into the water from about 15 feet up and immediately flying away... Presumably after missing its prey. Two long talk feathers, and its head would hang down far below its wings as it searched for food.
Bird at aquatic park
Some kind of thistle bush spotted on the side of trail in Strawberry Canyon, Berkeley. Plant is about 2-3 ft tall, with thick, prickly leaves. No flowers were seen on this particular plant. There were several of this kind of plant found along the trail.
A tree observed with 3-4 inch ellipse-shaped leaves, and light pink fruit at the tip of its branch. This particular branch is very close to ground level.

Under Quercus agrifolia about 10m away from Strawberry Creek. Roughly 20 mushrooms within a 5 ft radius. Fruiting bodies likely due to light rain in the morning.
Barred feather, found on ground on bank of creek. Half of the feather is black, half of it is a dark blue. 4" long, 1/2" wide. Feather is slightly translucent. Black horizontal stripes through the blue half of the feather.
