This was one of 4 seen today. This guy was 4 or 5 feet across and must have weighted about 200 to 300 LBS.
I'm guessing this was a family (all five in 2nd photo).
Having a territorial disagreement.

Growing in the sand from a dainty rosette, long leaf stems creep along the ground. Unopened flowers are curled up and deep orange. Opened, the flowers are paler yellow with four petals, eight stamen and one pistol.
Pretty little succulent growing in the dunes.
