Yellow flies on cow poo
This one was chattering loudly. I think I came too close to their nest, since I was hearing a softer chattering in nearby brushy area.
Found on SSU trail by pond.
Red eyes and black body with white spots.
Apparently a rare plant but quite common on the preserve. Only flowering on the exposed roadside with lots of sun.
On a longer stem in a redwood/douglas fir forest floor.
Lots of berries. Edge of meadow. Unknown variety of manzanita.
Taking a picture of mushrooms, I was startled to look up and see that a friendly peacock decided to share the trail with me. He walked me down a ways, and was waiting for me in the same spot when I came back.
