Found hiding under a rock
While taking shots of the Pileated woodpecker, I saw another bird fly over to the pole and figured it was the mate of the first one. When I looked at the pic on my computer I found it to be a northern flicker instead that came over to see what the other was up to, I guess.
I first heard the call of this species and after looking around found it on the pole across the road.
Some kind of caterpillar or other type of larva found on a creeping manzanita bush.
Found in the courtyard of the Dwight Center.
Plants lacking basal burl, approx. 2 m. in height, leaves glabrous.
Fresh mountain lion kill from last night. North road looks like a crime scene!
Growing in field with sticky rosin weed and oats
I found these wide spread on the slopes of the barn meadow.
One of our resident gopher snakes seemed to be doing an "ostrich" thing with its head resting between two panels and the rest of it out in the open where maybe it didn't think anyone could see it.
